CARRIE TANNER

Carrie Tanner, the daughter of Oliver Cromwell and Della Mae (Estep) Anderson, was born October 5, 1909 in Bloomington, Kentucky. She came to Iowa and the Primghar area, when she was 10 years old and received her education in a country school in Dale Township. On November 4, 1926, she was united in marriage to Verness Tanner in Sheldon, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in O’Brien County before moving to California. They returned to Iowa and moved to Primghar in 1940, the couple made their home in Primghar, where they raised their family. Carrie worked for a few years in the Cafeteria in the Primghar School. Her husband preceded her in death on February 9, 1988 in Primghar. Carrie remained in the family home and entered the Primghar Care Center in January of 2001. She passed away at the care center on Thursday, July 14, 2005, reaching the age of 95 years, 9 months and 9 days.
She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Primghar and a member of the Afternoon Circle. She attended the Primghar Dinner Date and was an active leader of the Primghar Cub Scouts. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, taking rides and baking especially cinnamon rolls.
Carrie leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Edith Mae Swanson of Sioux City, Iowa; a son, Larry and his wife, Carol Tanner of Santa Maria, California; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Garnet Gary of Tacoma, Washington; also many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Wayne and daughter-in-law, Elfrieda Tanner; son-in-law, Birdette Swanson; her parents, and two brothers, and two sisters.
