CHARLES H. MASTBERGEN
Charles Herbert Mastbergen, the son of Arie and Carrie (Buysman) Mastbergen was born May 6, 1929 near Sheldon, Iowa. He attended school in Archer, Iowa and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1947. On January 18, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Brinkman in Sheldon. They farmed together in the Melvin, Sheldon and Matlock, Iowa areas until they moved into Sheldon in 1990. They enjoyed extensive travel and their winter home in Mesa, Arizona. Marjorie passed away on March 6, 2007. On March 14, 2009, he was united in marriage to Freda Murray in Arizona and they continued to spend time in both Iowa and Arizona. He went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at a Mesa, Arizona hospital reaching the age of 86 years.
He was a member of First Reformed Church in Sheldon and attended the Broadway Chapel in Mesa, Arizona for many years.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Freda; two daughters and their husbands, Diane and Steve Vogel of Sioux City and Joy and Larry Feige of Brandon, S.D.; two sons and their wives, Brian and Debra Mastbergen of Sioux City and Curtis and Charlene Mastbergen of Sioux City; two step-daughters, Laura Murray and Julie (Mike) Davis of Arizona; 11 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a brother, Donald and his wife, Idelle; a sister-in-law, Kathaleen Mastbergen; brother-in-laws, Evert Reuvers, Dwayne (Bonnie) Brinkman, Marvin (Carolyn) Brinkman and Donald (Evelyn) Bunt; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; his parents and eight older siblings.
