DALE E. HARBST

Dale Eugene Harbst, the son of Henry Carl and Tossie Hazel (Heiliger) Harbst, was born October 5, 1930, in Sheldon, Iowa. He attended Sheldon schools and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1948. After high school he worked at the M&M Store as a meat cutter. Dale served in the United States Air Force from 1951 until his discharge in 1955. On June 16, 1956, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Schwarz in Luverne, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple made their home in Sheldon, where Dale worked for the State of Iowa Highway Commission. He later worked for the United States Post Office, retiring after working for 26 years. His wife preceded him in death on September 23, 2000 in Sheldon. Dale passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2005, reaching the age of 74 years, 2 months and 26 days.
He was known for always helping other people and was awarded the Governors Volunteer Award for helping out with Upper Des Moines.
Left to cherish his memories is his daughter, Cheryl and her husband, Terry Bender of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two sisters, Esther Harbst of Sheldon, Iowa and Betty Hulst of Weaverville, North Carolina; a brother, Heine Harbst of Spirit Lake, Iowa; also nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a sister, Hazel Hovall and two brothers, Carl and Don Harbst.
