DONALD ARTHUR HERMAN MERICLE
Donald A. H. Mericle, the son of Arthur Mericle and Margret Paterson Mericle, was born June 16, 1941 in Calgary, Alberta. Don grew up in Southern Alberta and attended high school in Medicine Hat and Red Deer, where he graduated from Lindsay Thurber High School. He continued his education at Iowa State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in history. After a brief stint teaching at Riverside High School in Milwaukee, Don enrolled in graduate school at Sir George Williams University in Montreal, Quebec. Don earned a Master of Arts degree in history and philosophy and stayed in Montreal to work in the Canadian film industry as a locations manager, assistant director, and in occasional roles as an actor.
He travelled extensively in eastern Canada before moving west to Alberta with his wife, Margaret. They settled in Medicine Hat, where they raised three children and Don worked in the industrial construction industry.
Don moved to the Mericle family farm in Paullina in the late 1980’s and remained there until the time of his death.
He is survived by his three children: Christopher Mericle of Lethbridge, Alberta; Megan and Sara Mericle, both of Montreal, Quebec; his former wife, Margaret Yorgan, of Lethbridge, Alberta; and his brother, Ken Mericle of Madison, Wisconsin.
Don also leaves countless dear friends in Iowa and across Canada.
