Dudley Dean Durst, the son of Donald and Beverly (Schueder) Durst was born September 25, 1957 in Primghar, Iowa. He attended the Sutherland Community School and graduated with the class of 1975. On October 23, 1976 he was united in marriage to Sherry Kruse his high school sweetheart at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa. For most of their married life the couple lived on an acreage west of Sutherland. To this union two children were born, Tiffany and Anthony. Dudley worked at the Sutherland Farmers Co-op, Northwest Iowa Landfill, O’Brien County Secondary Roads and Schoon’s Construction. In his early years, he farmed, raised hogs, he was a farmer at heart and enjoyed helping friends with their planting and harvesting. He passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar reaching the age of 55 years 10 months and 8 days.
He was baptized on December 20, 1957 in Calumet and later confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland on May 30, 1971 and was a long time member of the church. He loved to go to Okoboji and camp at Cutty’s, along with boating with his family, and fishing with his grandsons. His pride and joy was spending time with his two grandsons giving them rides on the 4 wheeler on the farm and rides in “Little White”. To his close friends he was known as “Buzzie”. He enjoyed his yearly trips to Ottertail, Minnesota, fishing, hunting, ice fishing, and the couple enjoyed going on several vacations to Mexico with special friends. He was a former member of the Gaza Fire Department for 10 years. He was a past member of O’Brien County Snowtrackers and was a member of the Sutherland Jaycees. He golfed in men’s league and served on the board of directors for the Primghar Golf and Country Club. In his early years he enjoyed bowling in leagues in Sutherland and Paullina, playing slow pitch softball with the Sutherland Strokers as a pitcher, and snowmobiling.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sherry of 36 years; one daughter, Tiffany (Tracy) Bahrenfuss of Primghar; one son, Anthony (Katie) Durst of Cheyenne, Wyoming; two special grandsons, Traven and Teagen Bahrenfuss; his mother, Beverly Durst of Gaza, Iowa; one brother, Gregg Durst of Spencer; one sister, Rhonda (Todd) Brown of Paullina; sister-in-law, Peggy (Tom) Tesch of Paullina; brother-in-law, Terry (Debbie) Kruse of Sutherland; along with nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. “Buzzie” will always be remembered for his laugh and giggle. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Durst and his in-laws, Leslie and Mary Kruse.
