EDWARD E. HORSTMANN
Edward Ernest Theodore Horstmann the son of Henry and Helen (Baumann) Horstmann was born August 9, 1926 on the Horstmann family farm in rural Sutherland, Iowa. He attended high school and graduated from Calumet High School. On August 27, 1947, he was united in marriage to Elaine Luhrs at the Horstmann family farm home. After their marriage the couple farmed with Eds dad, Henry and later farmed with his son, Mark and later with grandson, Michael until his retirement. The couples retirement years were spent on the family farm. Elaine passed away on February 20, 2012 in Primghar, Iowa. Ed remained on the family farm until moving to the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn, Iowa in June of this year to make his home. He passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Prairie View Retirement Home reaching the age of 90 years, 1 month and 22 days.
He was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trap shooting, playing cards, dancing and traveling with his wife, Elaine. In his younger years Ed flew airplanes from the air strip on the family farm.
Ed leaves to cherish his memory; one daughter and her husband, Vicki and Doug Stanford of Cedar Falls, Iowa and one son and his wife, Mark and Jo Horstmann of Sutherland, Iowa; six grandchildren, Heather, Matthew, Michael, Jason, Natalie and Amy; eleven great grandchildren and one on the way; a brother-in-law and his wife, Wally and Lori Luhrs of Okoboji, Iowa and a sister-in-law and her husband, Nadine and Bob Faust of Paullina also other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine and his parents, Henry and Helen.
