GERRIT J. SCHOLTEN
Gerrit J. Scholten, the son of William and Grace (Schuurman) Scholten was born on April 11, 1923 in Perkins, Iowa. He married Clazena Bomgaars on June 28, 1945 in Sioux Center, Iowa. Gerrit had been a farmer for many years in the Boyden area and for 10 years owned and operated a drive-in restaurant in Sheldon, Iowa. He then worked for 18 years for Farmers Co-Op retiring in 1985. He is preceded in death by his wife, Clazena on November 3, 1995, shortly after their 50th anniversary. Gerrit later married Darlene Keller in Washington, Illinois on June 25, 1997. Gerrit passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2009 in Washington, Illinois reaching the age of 86 years, 3 months and 5 days.
Gerrit was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden. Gerrit was known for his little witty sayings and always enjoyed making everyone laugh. His favorite times were spent with his family that he dearly loved. He had wintered in Alamo, Texas for 18 years.
Gerritt leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Darlene of Washington, Illinois; two daughters, Sharen and her husband, Drew Johnson of North Richland Hills, Texas and Donna and her husband, Frank Coppola of Arlington, Texas; three step sons, Michael and his wife, Kathy Keller of Metamora, Edward and his wife, Joyce Keller of Kernersville, North Carolina and Scott and his wife, Carol Keller of Washington; six grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Caroline Wissink of Hull, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clazena; a son, Dennis; a granddaughter, Tricia; a great-grandson, Landon and a sister, Arnolda.
