GLADYS SCHUKNECHT
Gladys Schuknecht, the daughter of Ted and Annie (Runge) Witt, was born June 20, 1925 in OBrien County, Iowa. She received her education in country schools in OBrien County and later attended Primghar High School. She and Sylven Schuknecht were united in marriage on December 17, 1944 at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa. After their marriage Sylven was called into the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington and Gladys moved to be with her husband in Washington. After his discharge the couple returned to OBrien County where they farmed southwest of Paullina until 1961. At this time the couple moved to Cleghorn, Iowa, where Gladys was employed part time in the school lunch room in Cleghorn and worked at Hildas Caf in Cleghorn. After their retirement the couple continued to make their home in Cleghorn. Sylven passed away on December 25, 2006 in Cherokee, Iowa. After his passing Gladys remained in the family home in Cleghorn. She moved to the Heartland Care Center in Marcus in March of 2012. She passed away at the Heartland Care Center on Thursday, May 19, 2016 reaching the age of 90 years, 10 months and 29 days.
Gladys was baptized and confirmed at the St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa and was currently an over 50 year member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus. She was active in braille for the mission of the church. She enjoyed family times, baking, crocheting, playing cards, sewing, gardening; especially her flowers.
Gladys leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Robert Saffrin of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Donna and Denny Specht of Marcus, Iowa; Janet and Richard Peck of Cherokee, Iowa; six grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren, also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylven; granddaughter, Rachel; her parents and two brothers, Elmer and Raymond Witt.
