GLENDA RAE POTTER

Glenda Rae Potter, the daughter of Paul and Ann (Kenyon) Baerenwald was born May 18, 1928 in Sheldon, Iowa. When Glenda was 1 year old her mother died and she was raised by her Aunt Beth and Uncle Roy Kimmel, whom she considered her mother and father. She received her education in Matlock, Iowa and graduated from Sheldon High School; the Class of 1945. She went on to graduate from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa with a teaching degree, she then taught school in Marcus, Iowa. Glenda married the love of her life, Travis Potter on December 27, 1947 at the United Methodist Church in Sheldon, Iowa. After their wedding the couple made their home on a farm east of Archer for 12 years and then they moved to the Potter Family Farm south of Sheldon. To this union the couple was blessed with three children, Tom, Lori and Dennis. Upon their retirement in 1988 they moved into Sheldon. Glenda passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, reaching the age of 81 years and 27 days.
Glenda was a very active member of the Sheldon United Methodist Church, having taught Sunday school, served as the Sunday School Superintendent for many years as well as the chairwoman of the WSCS for several years; she had also served on various other committees and enjoyed being an active member of PEO. She enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends, attending and watching sports; particularly football and spending her summers at Lake Okoboji. But her greatest happiness was when she was surrounded by her family.
Glenda is survived by her husband of 61 years, Travis Potter of Sheldon; a daughter, Lori and her husband, Bryan Roos of Mahtomedi, Minnesota; and her son, Dennis and his wife, Jan Potter of Sheldon, Iowa; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Tom; her parents and two brothers, Don and Dennis Baerenwald.
