HENRY “SAFE SAM” WAGENAAR

Henry “Safe Sam” Wagenaar, the son of Mike and Mabel (DeBruyn) Wagenaar, was born on June 11, 1939 in Sheldon, Iowa. He attended country schools in the Archer area and later graduated from Archer High School. After graduation he entered the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War and the Cuban Crisis. After his discharge, he returned to the Archer area. In 1970, he was united in marriage to Linda Hughes of Primghar. From this union, three children were born, Jason, Jodi and Jeff. After their marriage the couple lived in the Archer area where Hank operated his own excavation business for several years. He also owned a 600 acre ranch in Leon, Iowa for a time with cattle and farmland and his best dog Bart. He then came back to Primghar and trucked for DMT Trucking and Nicholsen and Edwards Elevator for the rest of his days.
Cancer took his life on March 17, 2006.
Hank enjoyed traveling and spending time with his friends. He had a gift for conversation and touched many people along his journey in life.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jason and his wife, Amy Wagenaar of Archer, Jodi and her husband, Troy Wohlert of Hartley, Jeff and his wife, Sally Wagenaar of Rochester, Minnesota; and six beautiful grandchildren, Haley and Dalton, Cole and Carter, Quinn and Blaine; and his mother, Mabel Wagenaar of rural Sheldon; five brothers, Jim and his wife, Mary of Archer, Fred and his wife, Diane of Cedar Rapids, Kenny and his wife, Dianne of Archer, Jerry and his wife, Renee of Paullina, and Don and his wife, Dee of Archer; four sisters, Marge Langemeyer of Ripon, California, Jackie and Karen Wagenaar of rural Sheldon, Judy and her husband, Bob Kruse of Sheldon, also many nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Mike on February 1, 1989.

Dad,
I have been through the worst with you and had some of the best times with you in the last year of your life. I am so glad you died peacefully in your sleep and I will love you always until I can see you again. You will be missed by many people.

Love your right hand man ~ your daughter
