HERMINA “MINA” LODE

Hermina “Mina” Lode, the daughter of Herman and Susan (Brink) Oldenkamp, was born February 5, 1920 in rural Boyden, Iowa. She received her education in a country school near Boyden, Iowa. On March 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to John Lode on her parent’s farm place near Boyden, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm north of Sanborn, Iowa for 14 years, later moving to a farm north of Sheldon on Country Club Road, where they farmed until their retirement in 1977. John and Mina had built a new home in Sheldon and moved into town that same year. Her husband John preceded her in death on October 7, 2005 in Sheldon. Hermina passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, reaching the age of 87 years, 6 months and 16 days.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. She enjoyed doing handwork, baking and was a caregiver, she especially loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Hermina leaves to cherish her memory, a son Arlan and his wife, Jane Lode of Sheldon; a daughter, Edna and her husband, Dennis Vaselaar of Ashton; 8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Susan Westra of Sanborn, Iowa; Edith Visser of Sheldon, Iowa and Geraldine Bouma of Omaha, Nebraska; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four sisters, Jennie Van Es; Tena De Raad; Gertrude Oldenkamp; Christine Lode; four brothers, William, Sam, Henry and John Oldenkamp; and two brothers and two sisters in infancy.

God gives us each a gift of life
To cherish from our birth.
He gives us friends and those we love
To share our days on Earth.

He watches us with loving care
And takes us by the hand,
He blesses us with countless joys
And guides the lives we’ve planned.

Then, when our work on Earth is done,
He calls us to His side,
To live with Him in happiness
Where peace and love abide.
