James A. Wilson, son of Arthur and Elsie Wilson, was born on March 12, 1924 and was raised on a farm near Marathon, Iowa, where he was baptized in the Marathon United Methodist Church and graduated from Marathon High School. Jim served in the US Army from 1942–1945 and attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, where he began his life long love of college football. Jim officiated football games, loved to pheasant hunt and followed Iowa Hawkeye football. He loved to dance, which is where he met Joyce Seydel in 1987. They both also liked to travel, do home improvement projects together, bird-watch and played a lot of cards and cribbage.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Blanche and Vergeen and a brother Oscar.
He is survived by his partner, Joyce Seydel of Paullina, Iowa; his children, Jim Wilson Jr. and his wife, Linda of Rock Island, Illinois; Michael Wilson and his wife, Kim of Spencer, Iowa; Diane Gunsolley and her husband, Bill of Rock Island, Illinois; Paul Wilson and his wife, Brenda of Maple Grove, Minnesota; his sister, Vivian Meyer of Cherokee, Iowa; Joyce’s children, Kip Seydel of Great Falls, Montana; Terry and Suzie Seydel of Brandon, South Dakota; Cynthia and John Dawson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Doreen and Kerry Loudenslager of Hartford, South Dakota; his grandchildren, Jim III and Julie Wilson; Mallory and Whitney Wilson; David Gunsolley Evan and Nicolas Wilson; Jessica Seydel, Tyler, Lance, Sam and Bridget Seydel; Marisa Blades, Aaron, Kellen and Kyle Loudenslager; and a great-grandson, Brendon Manning.

Miss Me, But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road,
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom filled room,
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not too long,
And not with your head bowed low,
Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me ~ but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take,
And each must go alone.
It’s all a part of the Master’s plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart,
Go to friends we know,
Bury your sorrows in doing good deeds,
Miss me ~ but let me go.
