JEAN VEEN

Orva Jean Veen, the daughter of Oscar and Gertrude (Top) Olson was born on February 28, 1929 in Luverne, Minnesota. The family moved to Sanborn, Iowa in 1944. Jean attended school in Sanborn and while in high school she was always in band and was drum majorette for the marching band. She graduated from Sanborn High School in 1947. After graduation Jean worked for the Telephone Company in Sheldon. She married Eugene K. Boone on August 30, 1949. They farmed with his parents southwest of Sheldon for four years before moving to Sanborn. In 1963 the family moved to Adrian, Minnesota, where Eugene and Jean both worked for Nobles County Review. They moved to Luverne, Minnesota in 1966 where Jean worked for the Farmer’s Coop Elevator for three years before joining her husband at the Rock County Star Herald. The couple moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa in 1973 where Jean worked for the Farmer’s Coop Exchange. Eugene passed away on October of 1986. Jean married Herbert Veen on March 18, 1989. The couple lived on a farm west of Sheldon for seven years before moving into town in 1996. They spent their winters in southern Texas beginning in 1993 and enjoyed themselves. Herbert passed away on July of 2008. Jean passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the Alton Care Facility in St. Paul, Minnesota reaching the age of 83 years, 8 months and 8 days.
She was a member of the Sheldon United Methodist Church. Her family has always been an important part of her life. She enjoyed camping with her family and crocheting afghans.
Jean is survived by her son, Stephen and his wife Becky of Scottsdale, Arizona, daughter Rebecca Hammett and her husband Robert of St. Paul, Minnesota; grandchildren, Ted, Tammi, Beighley, Patrick, Alexandra, Bradley, Heather, Justin and Evan; great grandchildren, Daryk, Draven and Montana; stepsons, Lester and his wife Carol Veen and Norman and his wife Alice Veen; four step grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kara and her husband Heine Folkers of Albia, Iowa and Ellen Kay and her husband Gerald Thompson of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, son, Jeffrey Allen Boone, granddaughter, Tracy Jean Boone, her parents, and a sister Lois Norton.
