JEANNE L. NEGUS
Jeanne L. Negus was born to Art and Ruth (Hughes) Rohwer on May 2, 1930 near Paullina in O’Brien County, Iowa. She graduated from Archer Consolidated School in Archer, Iowa. Jeanne attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics Education in 1952. She was married to James O. Negus on June 14, 1952 in Ames, Iowa and they moved to Newton, Iowa. In 1975, Jeanne received her Master’s Degree in Home Economics from Iowa State University. Besides working in education, Jeanne worked for several years at the Vernon Company in Newton. Her husband preceded her in death on December 9, 2011 in Newton, Iowa. Jeanne moved to the Pleasantville Care Center in Pleasantville, Iowa where she passed away on Monday, August 20, 2012 reaching the age of 82 years, 3 months and 18 days.
She was active in Camp Fire activities for 18 years. She loved doing things with her family and friends, sewing, cooking, crafts, and traveling. Jeanne and her husband enjoyed the Iowa State Cyclones.
Jeanne is survived by her children: Susan (Dennis) Ballard of Urbandale, Iowa; Suzanne Negus of Newton, Iowa; Cynthia (Tim) Miller of Newton, Iowa and William Negus of Ames, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Erin Ballard, Owen Ballard, TK Kanauss, Joe Kanauss, Katie Kanauss, Alex Kanauss, Tony Miller (Tammy) and Trevor Miller; two great grandchildren: Wexton and Vauhn Miller; one brother Ben Rohwer of Sanborn, Iowa, as well as many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her sister Elsie Mae Rohwer, and four brothers George, Alvin, Merrill and Jim Rohwer.
In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Camp Fire U.S.A.
