JOAN B. WOLTHUIZEN
Joan Berendena Wolthuizen, the daughter of George and Hermina (Bosman) Brinks was born July 11, 1926 in rural Boyden, Iowa. She grew up and received her education in a country school near Boyden. Joan worked at the Holland Home until she was married on October 24, 1947, to Andrew Wolthuizen, in Sheldon, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sheldon, Iowa. Joan was a wife and a mother and in later years worked as a dietary aide in the Sheldon School System before retiring in 1990. Joan passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at the Sanford Health Center Senior Care in Sheldon, reaching the age of 84 years, 4 months and 7 days.
Joan had attended the First Reformed Church in Boyden and there confessed her Faith in 1945, before transferring her membership to the First Reformed Church in Sheldon in 1948. Joan had been a 4-H Leader for 13 years, taught Sunday school, was a Senior Care Volunteer, Women’s Guild, the hospital auxiliary, Christian Retirement Home and the church library.
Joan is survived by her husband of 63 years, Andrew of Sheldon; three sons and their spouses, David and Denise Wolthuizen, Kenneth and Sandra Wolthuizen and Loren “Wally” and Dianne Wolthuizen all of Sheldon; a daughter, Debra Wolthuizen of Orange City, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Rachel (Eric) Iedema, Karla (Mark) Bouma, Benjamin (Rachal) Wolthuizen, Matthew (Kara) Wolthuizen, Sara Wolthuizen, Joshua Wolthuizen, Leah (Joe) Van Walbeek, Adam Wolthuizen, Melissa (Matthew) Huizenga, Justin (Chelsey) Wolthuizen; seven great-grandchildren, Collin, Dylan, Jaden, Dallas, Elizabeth, Andrew and Anika; three sisters, Berendena Scholten and Georgianna Holtrop both of Sheldon; and Hermina and her husband, Abraham Schiebout of Pipestone, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Henrietta Brinks of Worthington, Minnesota and a brother-in-law and his wife, Clarence and Helen Wolthuizen of Sheldon; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, James Leon; her parents; two brothers, John and Gerrit Brinks and a sister Gerdina Brinks.
