Joan "Jo" Boer, age 81, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon. Memorial Services will be Monday, May 29, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Luke Wynja officiating. Graveside Services will be Monday, May 29, at 9:30 A.M. at Greenwood Cemetery in Matlock, Iowa. Visitation will be Sunday, May 28, from 3:00 to 8:30 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials given to the Sheldon Christian Grade School. Joan "Jo" Henrietta Boer was born on October 24, 1935 in Everett, Washington. She was the daughter of William and Gertrude (Kadyk) Eskes. She lived her youth in Everett where she attended the Christian Grade School and graduated from Everett Washington High School. After high school, Jo moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan and worked at a furniture store. She met Jeen Boer of Sheldon, Iowa while he was working in Michigan and she was living with his cousin. After dating for a year, they were united in marriage on April 5, 1957 in Grand Rapids. They moved to Ocheyedan, Iowa and farmed for 3 years and then moved to their present home in rural Sheldon, Iowa, where they farmed. In April they celebrated 60 years of marriage. Jo loved being a farmer's wife and mother. She enjoyed fishing, fixing puzzles and playing cards with her family. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon where she was a member of Ladies Aid and a Calvinette leader. Jo entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon. Her life is celebrated and her death grieved by her husband, Jeen Boer of Sheldon, IA; 4 children, Beverly (Dirk) Lockwood of Byron Center, MI, Sharon (Randy) Schouten of Hawarden, IA, Glen (Michelle) Boer of Sioux Center, IA, Amy (Jason) Wagenaar of Archer, IA; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard (Corky) Eskes of California; one sister, Trudy (Duane) Van Dyke of Mt. Vernon, WA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marge Eskes of Mt. Vernon, WA, Gerry Boer of Sanborn, IA, Hank (Corynna) Boer of Hudsonville, MI, Vine Heimstra of Sioux Falls, SD, Ed (Fran) Boer of Byron Center, MI, Harlan (Joan) Boer of Sioux Center, IA, Dale (Karen) Boer of Sheldon, IA, Andy (Phyllis) Steensma of Grand Rapids, MI, and Roger Boer of Sheldon, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Eskes; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Ralph (Myrtle) Bootsma, Gary Heimstra and Fred Boer.
