KAREN J. PINGEL GANO
Karen June Gano the daughter of George and Caroline (Widgery) Pingel was born July 1, 1941 in Primghar, Iowa. She received her education in Primghar graduating from Primghar High School in 1959. On May 20, 1961 she was united in marriage to Ed Gano in Sanborn, Iowa, and to this union two daughters, Joan and Jill were born. After their marriage the couple settled outside of Primghar and in 1974, Karen and her daughters moved into Primghar. While in Primghar Karen was employed as a nurse aid and later the activity director at the Primghar Care Center. In the early 1980’s Karen moved to the Minneapolis, Minnesota area to make her home. While in Minneapolis she furthered her education by attending college and received college degrees. In July of 2011, she returned to Iowa and lived near Hartley with her daughter Jill and in September of 2011, she moved to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon. She passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 71 years, 2 months and 29 days.
She was baptized and later confirmed at the Grace Lutheran Church in Primghar. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, reading, writing poetry and journal writing, and loved the outdoors.
Karen is survived by her two daughters, Joan Berger of Cherokee and Jill and her husband, Larry Graves of Hartley; Joan’s family includes granddaughter, Heather and husband, Salvador Franco and their children, Jadilyn, Joriana, Salissa Karen and Salvador, granddaughter, Brandy and her children, Courtney and Hunter; granddaughter, Amber and her boyfriend, Brad Engelkes and children, Bradley, Wyatt and Olivia; Jill’s family; grandson, Eric Graves, grandson, Jeremiah Graves and fiancé, Grace; grandson, Jesse and wife, Paige Graves and children, Aubree and Sadie; three sisters, Georgia McNamara of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Linda Milligan of Klamath Falls, Oregon and Betty and her husband, Robert Koehlmoos of Cherokee, Iowa; also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a half-sister, Mary Saul.
