Kathryn Vander Plaats, age 84, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at her home in Sheldon. Funeral Services will be Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Luke Wynja officiating. Burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 16, from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon. Kathryn Eleanor Vander Plaats was born on April 26, 1931 in Sheldon, Iowa. She was the daughter of Sam and Lucy (DeJager) Ennema. She lived her youth in Sheldon where she attended Sheldon Christian Grade School and graduated. She was united in marriage to John Vander Plaats of Sibley, Iowa on February 25, 1949, at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sheldon. They lived in Sheldon where they owned and operated Van's Body Shop for over 30 years. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage. John passed away on April 6, 2009. Kathryn was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon where she was active when able. Kathryn was independent, quick witted and had a good sense of humor. She loved to be around her family and attend their activities. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her. She will be remembered as a loving mother. She passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at her home in Sheldon. Those left to cherish her memories are her children: Stan Vander Plaats of Sheldon, IA, Sandra Kay De Groot of Hudsonville, MI, Jerry and wife Stephanie Vander Plaats of Sheldon, IA, Brian Vander Plaats of Dallas, TX, Bob and wife Darla Vander Plaats of Grimes, IA; sixteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one brother: Martin Ennema of Sheldon, IA; two sisters: Dorothy Zuercher of Sheldon, IA, Gert Woudstra of Sheldon, IA; sister-in-law: Myrna (Vander Plaats) Elbers and her husband Courtney of Alvord, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Vander Plaats; two sons: Harlan and infant son Bradley; one daughter: Barbara; her parents; two sisters: Margaret and Berdella; one brother: Larry.
