KENNETH D. TRAVER
8/24/27 – 3/28/19
Kenneth Duane Traver, son of Eldon and Edna (Kummerfeldt) Traver was born in Sutherland, Iowa on August 24, 1927. He attended Paullina schools graduating in 1946. He was united in marriage to Dolores Silberstein on June 15, 1951. Kenneth served in the US Army during the occupation of Japan (Oct 1946 – Apr 1948) and in the Korean conflict (Sept 1950 – Dec 1951). Kenny worked as an engineer for Northern Natural Gas from May 1948 to Dec 1985. He was proud to say that he worked for 37 ½ years without a sick day and loved to tell the story about how he got his job with Northern. He had returned from serving in the Army and told John Lange that whatever town team got him a good job, he would pitch for them. The rest is history… Ken was always humble about his accomplishments in football and baseball and we only recently learned about some of his well-known pitches and wins. Kenny and Dolores raised five strong women and always led them with their faith and ‘doing the right thing.’ Kenny touched the lives and influenced many young men that he worked and golfed with (many in his 2nd job of painting) as well as so many others during his life – including family, extended family and friends. Kenny was a man of few words, but he was always ready with a quick-witted and playful remark.
Kenny was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina and enjoyed golfing and hunting golf balls, playing cards, cross word puzzles, country music, Wheel of Fortune, and his beloved cat, TC.
Kenny passed away on Thursday, March 28th, 2019, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, Iowa at the age of 91. He leaves to cherish his memory his five daughters: Susan and her husband Bruce Roholt of Franklin, TN; Roxanne and her husband George Coleman of Portland, OR; Denice and her husband Brad Kammerer of Newnan, GA; Julie and her husband Richard Andrews of Urbandale; and Linda and her husband Mounir Barhoumi of Roswell, GA; eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; his sister Doris Ann and her husband Ronald Kruse; sister-in-law Ade Traver of Paullina and brother-in-law Kenneth Silberstein and his wife Joyce of Marietta, GA.
Kenny was preceded in death by his wife Dolores, grandson Lucas, his parents and three brothers - Burdette, Gordon and Charles.
We are so thankful for the friends and family who watched over him all these years since Mom passed away. We would also like to thank the Paullina Family Medical Clinic who cared for him for so many years, as well as Edencrest Assisted Living, Bishop Drumm Care Center and Mercy Hospice – all of Johnston – for their care these last 15 months.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Puppy Jake Foundation, Des Moines or the Animal Rescue League of Des Moines.

A PLACE CALLED HOME

By Josh Kammerer
In memory of Grandma & Grandpa

OF BRICK & MORTAR
OF WOOD & STONE
A PLACE OF LOVE
A PLACE CALLED HOME
NO MATTER THE YEARS OR MILES
NO MATTER HOW FAR WE ROAM
WE WILL ALWAYS HAVE
A PLACE CALLED HOME
OUR HOME IS NOT UNIQUE
IT’S LIKE SO MANY OTHERS
FILLED WITH PEOPLE WE LOVE
SISTERS & BROTHERS
MOMS & DADS, COUSINS, UNCLES & AUNTS
ALL THAT WE NEED
EVERYTHING WE COULD WANT
THEY SAY YOUR HOME IS WHERE YOUR HEART IS
AND THAT OFTEN RINGS TRUE
MY HEART FILLS WITH JOY
AS SOON AS I THINK OF YOU
YOU SEE IT’S NOT ABOUT BRICK,
MORTAR, WOOD OR STONE
BECAUSE WHEN IT’S ALL OVER
I’LL HAVE A NEW HOME
I DON’T KNOW HOW LONG
I DON’T KNOW WHEN
ALL I KNOW IS I LOVE YOU
AND I’LL SEE YOU AGAIN
