LELA M. HIBBING
Lela Mae Hibbing, the daughter of Henry and Laura (Meisner) Dubberke was born May 4, 1933 in Nampa, Idaho. She received her education in schools in Cascade, Idaho and graduated from high school. She went on to attend Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota for two years to receive her teaching certificate. Her first teaching assignment was Zion Lutheran School in Paullina. This is where she met and later married Herbert Hibbing on August 14, 1955 at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. The couple made their home on a farm west of Paullina. Lela taught for a year after their marriage and took a break from teaching to raise her family. She resumed teaching at Zion Lutheran School and taught for more than 25 years before her retirement in 1992. Lela and Herb remained on the family farm in their retirement years. In June of 2010, because of failing health she entered the Primghar Care Center. She passed away at the care center on Sunday, January 22, 2012 reaching the age of 78 years, 8 months and 18 days.
She was baptized on May 28, 1933 and later confirmed on August 22, 1948 into the Lutheran faith which she spent her life teaching the young people of Zion. She was active in Zion being a former Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, a member of Dorcas Society and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, reading, sewing, scrap booking, Bible studies, visiting and having coffee with her friends.
Lela is survived by her husband of 56 years, Herb of Paullina; children, Rhonda and her husband, Lee Swanson of Lakefield, MN; Donald and his wife, Brenda Hibbing and Janet and her husband, Peter Grote all of Sibley; eight grandchildren, Joshua(Ami), Jordan, Taylor, Shaun, Bryan, Ashley, Adam and Alyssa; a great granddaughter, Kaelyn; two brothers, Rev. Edwin and his wife, Joan Dubberke and Raymond and his wife, Ethel Dubberke all of St. Louis, MO; a half brother, Kenneth Dubberke of Seattle WA; and other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Vernice and Lawrence Knutson; half brother, Vernon Dubberke; half sister, Dorothea Conrad; and sister-in-law, Wanda Hibbing.
