LILLIAN H. KOERSELMAN

Lillian Henrietta Koerselman, the daughter of John Henry and Johanna (Woertink) Landhuis was born February 18, 1912 on the family farm near Leota, Minnesota. She received her education in country schools, later graduating from Boyden High School. She graduated from Sheldon Jr. College and attended Hope College for one year. She taught in a country school near Boyden from 1930 to 1934. On June 6, 1934, she was united in marriage to Herman Koerselman in Boyden, Iowa. After their marriage the couple resided in George for 67 years. Lillian’s primary focus was to be a godly wife and mother, rearing her eight children over a 39 year span. The couple moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon in 2001. Herman passed away in Sheldon on January 21, 2004. Lillian continued to make her home in Sheldon and passed away at the Northwest Iowa Health Center on Monday, January 30, 2006, reaching the age of 93 years, 11 months and 12 days.
Lillian was a long-time member and Sunday School Teacher of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, and also served her church through the women’s organizations. She was president of the George Presbyterial from 1957 to 1958, was a 4-H leader, member of the George Sr. Women’s Club and the Lyon County Farm Bureau Ladies. Besides sundry volunteer work Lillian had her own ministry of encouragement via visiting and correspondence. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Her hobby was quilting.
Lillian is survived by her eight children, Bernard Koerselman and his wife, Darlene of Surprise, Arizona; Joyce Oatey of Sheldon, Iowa; Herbert Koerselman and his wife Arlene, of Louisville, Kentucky; Mary Roberts and her husband Les, of Brainerd, Minnesota; Linda Slykhuis and her husband Cliff, of Lincoln, Nebraska; Les Koerselman and his wife Nancy, of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Vern Koerselman and his wife Linda, of Madelia, Minnesota; Nancy Zattler and her husband Jim, of Weare, New Hampshire; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, six brothers and two sisters.
After today’s service, relatives and friends are
invited to join the family in the fellowship hall of the church.
