Lois Ann Ascherl, was born February 27, 1933 in Clare, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Mary (Fitzgerald) Albrecht. Lois attended St. Matthew’s Catholic School in Clare, Iowa graduating in 1950. After high school she worked for a short time as a bookkeeper in an Abstract Office; she also worked in the office at National Gypsum Mills; and at the Fort Dodge Laboratories all in Ft. Dodge.

On April 27, 1957, she was united in marriage to Paul Duane Ascherl at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Clare. The young couple made their home north of Ft. Dodge for a few years before moving into Ft. Dodge in 1959. In May of 1962, they moved to Clare and in 1969 they moved to an acreage in Deer Creek Township northwest of Ft. Dodge. Lois was a loving wife and mother; she kept herself busy with her boys, she taught them to dance and to have manners: to be gentlemen, all with a great sense of humor. She also helped them walk beans and their break their 4-H calves to lead during the summer. When the boys were in school she would take them to their singing engagements and followed every sporting event or musical activity. Lois also worked at the Deer Creek Election Polling location.
In 1982, Paul moved to Janesville, Wisconsin, where he worked for Hormel and Lois and Luke followed in the summer of 1983. Lois started working in the dental office of Dr.’s Tim and Tom Cain in Janesville until she retired in 1998 and moved to Emmetsburg, Iowa where they were centrally located among the grandchildren. Lois became a resident of the Emmetsburg Care Center in 2012 and passed away at the Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg on February 6, 2013, reaching the age of 79 years, 11 months and 10 days.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. While living in Clare she was active with St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, the churches ladies guild and Monican Mothers and while living in Janesville she was a member of St. William’s Catholic Church. Her faith was precious to her and she saw to it that her boys received a Catholic Education. Lois’s pride and joy came when she was able to spend countless hours with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano, cards, laughing, family and friends. She was a good cook; never used a cookbook. Lois could prepare a meal to feed an Army - which she did twice daily when the kids were all at home and on holidays.

Her memories will be cherished by her husband, Paul of 55 years; her eight sons and their spouses, Matthew and Elaine of Sheldon, Iowa; Todd and Cathy of Tryon, Nebraska; Mark and Annie of The Colony, Texas; David and Sandy of Janesville, Wisconsin; Michael and Joan of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; Joseph and Donna of Granville, Iowa; John and Stefanie of Panama City, Florida and Luke and Amy of Eagle Grove, Iowa; twenty-nine grandchildren: Jeremiah, Kara, Megan, Andrew (Liz) and Evan; Elizabeth (Joseph) Kupper, Daniel (Amanda), Zach, Alex (Rachel), Brigette (Keith) Kenagy, Samuel, Isaac and Theresa; Paul, Patrick and Ally; Cassidy, David & Michael; Jocelyn and Madeline; Caitlin, Collin, Caroline and Connor; Fulton and William; Brett and Rylie; ten great-grandchildren, Alicen, Ambrie and Aubrey; Joseph and Ava; Emmie; Isabella and Tenley; Connelly and Claire; a brother, Maurice and his wife, Betty Albrecht of Davenport, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Alice Albrecht of Ft. Dodge, Iowa and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Parker Allen and Angela Mary Marie Ascherl; her parents, a brother, Ernie and a sister and her husband, Olive and Jerry Neil.
