LUELLA B. HOLLANDER

Luella Bertha Kathryn Hollander, the daughter of John Peter and Mary Kathryn (Rhode) Lutjens, was born March 17, 1915 in Hull, Iowa. She grew up on a farm near Hull, Iowa, where she received her education in a country school. She was united in marriage to Ernest C. Hollander on April 11, 1935 at her parent’s farm home in rural Boyden, Iowa. They lived in Boyden and later moved to Lake Benton, Minnesota. In 1954, they moved to Matlock, Iowa. Luella raised her family and was also employed at the D & H Hatchery in Matlock. Her husband preceded her in death on December 30, 2002 in George, Iowa. Luella remained in the family home until moving to the Pleasant Acres Care Center in January of 2007. She passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Pleasant Acres reaching the age of 95 years, 2 months and 12 days.
She was baptized, confirmed and a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Boyden, Iowa. She enjoyed caring for her grandchildren, baking and gardening.
Luella is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl and her husband, Kenny Kruse of Matlock, Iowa and Helen Hernandez of Des Moines, Iowa; a son-in-law, Don Carlson of Matlock; seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; one sister, Erna Niehaus of Fulda, Minnesota; also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Marilyn Carlson; a grandson, Donald L. Carlson; two great-grandsons in infancy, her parents and two sisters, Viola Eich and Helen Reimers.
