MARGARET ANN DYKSHORN

Margaret Ann (Van De Hoef) Dykshorn was the daughter of Willem and Janna (Lagendyke) Van De Hoef of The Netherlands. She was born south of Boyden, Iowa on August 31, 1911. She graduated from Boyden High School, where she lettered in basketball. In 1930, she went to the Sioux City Academy of Beauty Culture in Sioux City, Iowa and graduated on December 28, 1932. She opened her own beauty shop (hair salon) in Sioux Center, Iowa in 1934, after working in Alta, Iowa.
On August 21, 1939, she married Marion John Dykshorn in Sioux Center. They made their home in Rock Valley, where she continued to work as a beautician. In 1947, they moved to Sheldon, Iowa.
In 1990, Mr. and Mrs. Dykshorn became residents of the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon. She lived there for twelve years. On January 29, 2003, she became a resident of the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon. She passed away at the Northwest Iowa Health Center ~ Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa on Thursday, March 23, 2006, reaching the age of 94 years, 6 months and 23 days.
Mrs. Dykshorn was an active member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. She taught Sunday school and participated in the Martha Ladies Circle and many other church activities. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and baking.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Mae Dykshorn and son-in-law, Patrick R. Smith of La Crosse, Wisconsin; her son and his wife, William Dean and Marsha Dykshorn of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two grandchildren, Angela Dawn and Andrew Dean; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Dave (Margaret) Roelofs of Sioux Center, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion John; her parents, three sisters, Jane Leusink, Pauline Hulstein and Cora Notting; and four brothers, Paul, Jake, Bert and Willis Van De Hoef.
