MARY H. VELLINGA
Mary Vellinga, the daughter of John and Gertie (Dekker) Vos, was born in Boyden, Iowa on September 18, 1909, where she lived her youth and attended school. On June 15, 1921, she was united in marriage to Donald Van Meeteren, in Boyden, Iowa and the couple made their home in Sheldon, Iowa. Mary was employed at Hollanders Variety Store and later at Mastbergen Jewelry both of Sheldon, as a sales clerk. Donald preceded her in death on May 3, 1966 in Sheldon, Iowa. On September 15, 1969, she was united in marriage to John R. Vellinga in Sheldon, Iowa and he passed away on April 11, 1999 in Sheldon, Iowa. Mary passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at the Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa, reaching the age of 96 years, 3 months and 9 days.
Mary was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon and was a member of the women’s circle and guild.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory, her two daughters and their husbands, Dolores and John Kruger and Darlene and Ervin Verrips all of Sheldon, Iowa and a stepson and his wife, Mark and Carmen Vellinga of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; thirteen grandsons, two step-grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson, a daughter-in-law, Verdella “Del” Van Meeteren of Sheldon, Iowa; three sisters, Gertrude Merley; Irene and her husband, Vern Ingalls and Betty Wassenaar all of Sheldon, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Van Meeteren and John R. Vellinga; her parents, an infant daughter, two sons, LeRoy “Blink” Van Meeteren and his wife, Velma; and Howard Van Meeteren; a brother, Arthur Vos; two sisters, Lena Jacobs and Eunice Van Oort.
