Mary's Life Legacy April 18, 1931-January 23, 2019 On January 23, 2019, Mary (Schmidt) Evink of Sioux Center, IA was welcomed into the arms of her LORD and Savior Jesus Christ. Mary Maxine was born in Edgerton, MN to Edgar and Grace (Alons) Schmidt. She attended Christian schools in Hospers, Sheldon and Hull, IA. Due to World War II, Mary was needed at home, and so later received her high school diploma in Delavan, WI. On June 29, 1950, Mary married Wilbert Evink, and they made their home in Sibley, IA. Later the family moved to Randolph, WI and Delavan, WI. This union was blessed with three daughters; Gloria, who lives at Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon, IA; Kae, married to John Van Engen of Sioux Center, IA; and Pamela, married to Jim De Windt of Jenison, MI. In later years, they were blessed with four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Katie and Dr. Brian VanderLey, Gerrit, Gavin, and Johanna of Sutton, NE; Merribeth and Lucas De Groot, Olivia, Nora and Violet of Oskaloosa, IA; Andrew De Windt; Anna De Windt both of Jenison, MI. Mom loved to read, as she was always looking for a book or newspaper. Her Bible was her most enjoyable book. Where ever she lived, she participated in numerous Bible Studies, church and community events. She managed an office supply store, worked for the Department of Commerce, and enjoyed playing the organ; serving as an organist in the various churches and parks where their travels took them. Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling; and their travels took them to various places of warmth through the winter season. Upon the death of her husband, Mom moved to Sioux Center, IA, where she was a member of Faith CRC. In 2013, Mom moved to Crown Pointe, and in 2017, she moved to Royale Meadows. Mom filled her time with sewing. She was known to look at something and create a pattern for anything. All her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren have been blessed by her talents. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, and most recently was active in making cards. Numerous people were blessed by her faithful birthday greetings and words of encouragement. Her family will always remember her as a strong, devoted Christian who prayed daily for them. Mary was known as a mom who always said, "Have a good day!" and "I love you!" She always wanted to know what her grandkids and great grandchildren were doing. She was a prayer warrior. Nothing brightened her day more, than a phone call or a surprise visit when the great grandchildren would sing songs with her, and she could talk about the goodness of her LORD and Savior. Besides the immediate family, Mary is survived by her sister, Jeannette (Jim) Sluis of Edgerton, brothers, Dean, Henry (Joyce) and Elmer (Mary Jean) Schmidt, all of Sheldon, IA, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Grace, her brother Raymond, her husband, Wilbert and sister in law, Charlotte Schmidt. Memorials may be directed to Village Northwest Unlimited. Blessed be her memory.
