MAURICE J. MOUW


Maurice Joe Mouw, the son of Joe and Minnie (De Groot) Mouw was born May 24, 1920 near Middleburg, Iowa. He attended a country school at Middleburg. At the age of 9, he moved with his parents to Boyden, Iowa and there he attended the Christian School. On December 20, 1940, he was united in marriage to Margretta “Betty” Kleyne. They were married on the farm place of Leonard Kleyne. The couple farmed near Boyden their entire married life, living on the home place until they moved into Boyden in 1968. He continued farming with his sons and also working at Demco in the winter months. He retired from farming in 1985. He passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at the Northwest Iowa Health Center Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa, reaching the age of 86 years, 4 months and 6 days. His battle with cancer lasted 3 ½ years, bur he never complained. His attitude was an inspiration to everyone.
He was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church in Boyden. He enjoyed camping and going fishing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He spent many hours working in his garden and on his lawn. His family was very special to him and he was special to them.
Maurice leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 66 years, Betty of Boyden, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Dennis and Sandra Mouw of Sheldon, Iowa; Daryl and Linda Mouw of Boyden, Iowa; four grandchildren, David and Laura Mouw of Boyden, Iowa; Michael Mouw of Rapid City, South Dakota; Beth Koedam of Logansport, Indiana; Tricia and Scott Hernandez of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; six great-grandchildren, Joshua and Haley Mouw; Mason Mouw; Mallory Drunkenmiller; Cody Koedam; Chase Hernandez; he is also survived by a sister-in-law, Bernice Mouw of Sheldon, Iowa; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Earl and Mina Fouts of Marshalltown, Iowa; one niece and a nephew; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tom Mouw.
