MELVIN K. TESCH

Melvin K. Tesch, the son of John and Sophie (Koehlmoos) Tesch was born March 28, 1923 in Caledonia Township, OBrien County, Iowa. He was baptized as Melvin Karl Henry Albert Tesch on April 5, 1923 at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. He received his education at St. John Lutheran School, and was confirmed on May 2, 1937, at St. John Lutheran Church. He served in the Army during W.W. II from March of 1943 until his discharge in January of 1946. He married Dorothy Dobbertin Haht on January 23, 1949. Dorothy had three children, Charlene Haht-Way (deceased); Donnie Haht (deceased); Glenda and Bob Perry of Vail, Arizona. They lived and worked hard together on their farm northwest of Paullina for 34 years, before moving to their home in Paullina in 1983. They had four children, Keith (deceased) and his wife, Macrina Tesch of Spencer, Iowa; Denise and her husband, Bob (deceased) Edgar of Waverly, Iowa; Kevin and his wife, Lisa Tesch of Orange City, Iowa; Terry and his wife, Terri Lynn Tesch of Granville, Iowa.
He has eleven grandchildren, Tom Perry (Denise); Nathan Tesch (Marla); Kelvin Tesch (Bridget); John Perry; Jen Pulford (Andrew); Shannon Tesch (Katie); Kurtis Tesch (Erin); Rob Edgar; Kody Tesch; Michelle Hemmingson (Travis); Klayton Tesch (Jessica); nineteen great grandchildren; one sister, Millie Krambeck of Galva, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Tesch of Hartley, Iowa; also other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Keith Tesch and Donnie Haht; a daughter, Charlene Haht-Way; son-in-law, Bob Edgar; parents, one brother, Merlon Tesch; two sisters, Margaret Byers and Mardella Tesch.
Melvin was a lifelong member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown; a member and Past Commander of the Russell West Post of the American Legion in Paullina; Past 9th District Commander of the American Legion. In the early years he helped manage the American Legion building in Paullina. His church, family and the farm were the most important things in his life. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing especially the waltz and polkas.
He passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, Iowa reaching the age of 92 years, 11 months and 25 days. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved Dorothy on his 93rd birthday.
