MINNIE J. DE HOOGH

Hermina “Minnie” Johanna De Hoogh, the daughter of Henry W. and Aleida (Westerveld) Hengeveld was born February 8, 1920 in The Netherlands. She moved with her parents to the Sanborn, Iowa area when she was 3 years old and received her education in a country school near Sanborn. On August 26, 1942 Minnie was united in marriage to Gerard A De Hoogh in Dakota City, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Sheldon before moving to Riverside, California while Gerard served in the military. After his discharge from the service they returned to the Sheldon area to make their home on a farm. Gerard preceded Minnie in death on November 2, 1978. Minnie worked at Murphy’s Clothing Store in Sheldon and was a Hostess at Hardees for many years. She moved into Sheldon in the summer of 1999. Minnie passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, reaching the age of 91 years, 7 months and 14 days.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon and had taught Sunday school, helped with the Vacation Bible School and was a member of the churches circle for many years. She enjoyed playing her organ at home, crocheting baby blankets for her grand and great-grandchildren, and spending time caring for her grandchildren.
Minnie leaves to cherish her memory her three children, Alvera and her husband, David Kidder of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Gary and his wife, Nadine De Hoogh of Sheldon and Donna Dykstra of Sheldon; eight grandchildren, Tamara and (Jason), Amber, Gered and (Gina), Evan and (Laura), Blake and (Karisa), Jordan, Bryant and Kayla; 10 great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Patrice De Hoogh of Sheldon and Marjorie Hengeveld of Hartley, Iowa and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerard; a daughter, Theann and an infant son; a great-granddaughter, Vanessa; a son-in-law, Keith Dykstra; her parents, five brothers, Theodore, John, Joe, Henry and William Hengeveld and two sisters, Dora Postma and Alyda Victoria.
