MYRON W. MEYER
Myron Wiebe Meyer, the son of Wiebe and Susan (Wheelhouse) Meyer was born April 22, 1933 in Sheldon, Iowa. He attended Matlock schools and later graduated from Sheldon High School in 1951. He furthered his education at Northwestern Junior College, received his B.A. at Westmar College in LeMars and his Masters Degree at the University of South Dakota. On June 18, 1953 he was united in marriage to Esther Maassen at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. After their marriage the couple lived in Matlock for three years where Myron taught country school in Lyon County and then in Archer until it closed and finished his teaching career at Sheldon Middle School retiring in 1989. The couple’s retirement years were spent at their home in Archer where they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Myron passed away on Friday, June 28, 2013 at the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn reaching the age of 80 years, 2 months 6 days.
He was a member of the Archer Reformed Church where he had served as a Elder. He had been clerk for the East Sioux Classis for the Reformed Church of America. Myron served for 20 years on the Archer Fire Department, 22 years as the Archer City Clerk, and sang bass in the Archer Gospel Quartet. He enjoyed smoking his pipe, woodworking, reading, camping, and his family was especially important to him.
Myron is survived by his wife, Esther of Archer, three sons, Bill and his wife, Roberta Meyer of Spencer, Iowa; Mike Meyer of Orange City, Iowa and Roger Meyer of Cincinnati, Ohio; two grandchildren, Brent and his wife, Keri Meyer of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Becki Harris of Spencer, Iowa; four great grandchildren, Paxton and Neely Meyer and Isabelle and Bentley Harris; a sister-in-law, Barbara Meyer of Van Nuys, California; also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Glendon Meyer.
