Paul Emil Ebel, the son of Charles and Martha (Clardy) Ebel was born September 11, 1915 on Carlinville, Illinois. He moved to Iowa with his family when he was four years old. He received his education in country schools in the Paullina and Primghar area. He was engaged in farming before he entered the service on June 8, 1942. He served in the Army Air Force during W.W. II as a Staff Sergeant. He served in many areas including India, China, Korea and the Pacific Ocean, where he flew over the Equator. It was during this time that he lost his hearing. He received a medical discharge on March 15, 1945. On April 26, 1948, he was united in marriage to Gladys Hulst in Primghar, Iowa. He worked as a mechanic for Chevrolet, Dodge and Plymouth for 20 years. He also loved to work on lawn mowers and did garden tilling. He passed away on Monday, August 7, 2006 at the Primghar Care Center, reaching the age of 90 years, 10 months and 26 days.
He was a member of the United Church of Primghar, the Chateau-Thierry Post of the American Legion and the DAV. He loved to hunt, fish and especially garden.
Paul is survived by his wife, Gladys of Primghar, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Larry and Elaine Ebel of Sheldon, Iowa; Daryl and Barb Ebel of Primghar, Iowa; three grandchildren, Chad and Carol Ebel; Becky and Mike Rader; and Kelly and Tina Ebel; five great-grandchildren, Tony and Nikki Ebel; Ethan and Jacob Rader; and Sammi Stange; a sister, Helen Emmerson of Sanborn, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 9 brothers, Clarence, Arthur, Melvin, Myron, Milton, Charles, Ernie, Howard and Carl; two sisters, Evelyn Fitzpatrick and Gladys Bowen.
