PHILLIP R. DICE

Phillip “Phil” R. Dice, the son of Clarence Robert and Gladys Ann (Jacobsen) Dice was born June 28, 1941 at Lake Park, Iowa. He received his education at Lake Park graduating from the Lake Park High School in 1959. He continued his education and graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa in 1963. On October 6, 1962, he was united in marriage to Deanna Jacobsen in Ponca, Nebraska. After his college graduation he began teaching at Mapleton for 2 years before moving to Hartley where he taught for 13 years. During this time he received his master’s degree at the University of Mississippi. In 1977, the couple came to Paullina where they purchased Lange’s Café which they owned and operated for 28 years, they also operated Dice’s Catering which they were still operating at Phil’s death. He passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, reaching the age of 67 years, 10 months and 1 day.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina. He enjoyed operating his business, fishing and playing computer games.
Phil will always be remembered by his wife, Deanna of Paullina; two daughters, Tamara and her husband, Mark Bullington of Brookings, South Dakota and Joni Yudka of Sioux City, Iowa; one son and his wife, Dana and Amy Dice of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren, Chaz, Breanna and Brooke Bullington; Noah Caldwell; William and Matthew Dice; a brother and his wife, Robert and Susan Dice of Spicer, Minnesota; also other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carmen.
