Raymond Puhrmann, the son of George and Emma (Beerman) Puhrmann Sr. was born January 3, 1915 on his parent’s farm in Baker Township of O’Brien County, Iowa. He received his education in a country school and later at Zion Lutheran School. On January 22, 1939, he was united in marriage to Alma Riebesell at her parent’s home near Calumet, Iowa. After their marriage the couple started farming northwest of Paullina, where they raised Registered Purebred Duroc Hogs and Register Polled Hereford Cattle. In 1969, they retired from farming and moved to Paullina. In 1972, they became janitors at the Presbyterian Church and later became janitors of Zion Lutheran Church and school.
He was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed on June 1, 1930. He also served on the school board for Zion Lutheran School and held many offices in the church.
