RICHARDDICK K. KOBBE

Richard Kenneth Kobbe was born April 4, 1930 in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the son of John and Minnie (Schultz) Kobbe. The family moved to Sheldon, Iowa in 1930. After high school he enlisted into the U.S. Navy serving two tours of duty in the Korean Conflict. After his discharge he returned to Sheldon where he was employed at Molmens Dairy. On May 7, 1954, he was united in marriage to Margaret Grogan. Dick worked for Wonder Bread in Sheldon for 20 years at night loading trucks. He also was employed for 29 years by the City of Sheldon and many of those years as the water plant superintendent. He retired in 1992. His wife preceded him in death on October 15, 1993. Dicks retirement years were spent in Sheldon where he enjoyed doing volunteer work for Oak Park Care Center and the Prairie Museum. Dick passed away on Friday, November 27, 2015 at the Sanford Sheldon Senior Care where he had been a resident for the last several months, reaching the age of 85 years, 7 months and 23 days.
Dick loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many family outings were very special to him. He was an avid fisherman, a faithful supporter of the Chicago Cubs baseball team; he loved to sit on his front porch, watching the neighbors and feed the birds and squirrels. He found solace in the Bible, reading it many times over.
Dick is survived by his two children; Sue (Kevin) Roth and Rick (Pam) Kobbe all of Sheldon, Iowa; five grandchildren, Amber Roth (David Garcia), Los Angeles, California, Jami Atkins of Worthing, South Dakota; Luke (fiance Katie) Kobbe of Tacoma, Washington, Jill Kobbe of Marion, Iowa and Kelly Kobbe of Rochester, Minnesota; two great grandchildren, Landon and Evan Atkins of Worthing, South Dakota; also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, step-son, Robert Duchene, parents, two sisters, Bernice Swain and Marian Estep and one brother, Alvin Kobbe.
