RICHARD W. DICK ROHWER

Richard W. Rohwer, the son of Delbert and Dorothy (Williams) Rohwer was born January 28, 1928 in Primghar, Iowa. He attended 11 different schools graduating from Sutherland High School in 1947. He served in the United States Army Air Corp from 1948-1951 during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Lois Phipps on December 15, 1951 at the United Methodist Church in Sutherland, Iowa. After he and Lois were first married, they farmed in the Sutherland and Hartley area. Richard never shied away from hard work. He was a long haul over the road truck driver taking loads to Houston, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; and into northern Minnesota. He was a hog buyer for Armour & Co. in Sheldon for 15 years and in 1973 bought a farm in rural Primghar. He and his wife, Lois farmed until they retired to Primghar in 1982.
After his wife, Lois passed away on May 18, 1999; he made the decision to move to Cherokee to be closer to his family. He made many new friends and was able to spend precious time with his children and grandchildren touching their hearts forever.
He passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa reaching the age of 86 years, 3 months and 1 day. Richard, Dick to his friends, had a special bond with his caregivers at both Careage Hills in Cherokee and for the last year at Heartland Care Center in Marcus. He loved to laugh and joke with anyone who took the time to get to know him and was spoiled with his favorites, vanilla ice cream and Oreos.
His smile, his laugh and his memory will forever be in the hearts of his children, Sandy Rohwer of Marcus; Diane (Randy) Hogan of Sanborn; Dean (Val) Rohwer of Sutherland; Danette (Brian) Cooper of Monmouth, IL and Donna (Gerard) Kohn of Cherokee. He is also survived by his grandchildren who were his special blessings, Ryan Rohwer and his special friend, Katie Carver, Brandon (Sunni) Hogan, Wesley Hogan, Krystal Hogan, Brittany (Curtis) Molitor, Jake Rohwer, Jeff Rohwer, John Rohwer, Joseph Rohwer, Alex Rohwer, Abrahm Rohwer, Breanne (Michael) Rapken, Bryce Cooper and special friend Marcy Ostroff, Dylan and Dustin Kohn. He was also blessed with 7 great grandchildren and one on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Rita Schoening Selk and a host of other nieces, nephews and family members.
