ROBERT H. BRINKMAN


Robert Henry Brinkman, the son of Henry D. and Jessie (Kroese) Brinkman, was born October 13, 1929 in Ashton, Iowa. He was raised in the Alton area, where he attended and graduated from high school in 1947. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy from which he was honorably discharged. Bob was united in marriage to Donna Lou Vande Garde in 1952 and to this union was born four children. Robert drove a gas transport for many years and was employed by AGP as a weigh master for 16 years until his retirement in 1991. On June 1, 1979, he was united in marriage to Gladys De Roos McPeek and they made their home in Sheldon. Bob passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, reaching the age of 77 years, 7 months and 4 days.
Bob was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon and the Eagles F.O.E. and was a past member of the Isaac Walton League. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and just loved being outdoors.
Left to cherish her memory are his wife, Gladys Brinkman of Sheldon, Iowa; four children and their spouses, Debra and Mark Johnson of Sheldon, Iowa; Rick and Lori Brinkman of Arnolds Park, Iowa; Tom and Brenda Brinkman of Centerville, Utah; Shelly and Wayne Vander Tuig of Indianola, Iowa; a step-son and his wife, Bill and Vickie McPeek of Sheldon, Iowa; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Joyce Jeffer of Orange City, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Richard and Roy Brinkman; and a sister, Julia Koerselman.
