He spent his childhood years on a farm near Melvin. He attended country school near Melvin and graduated from Melvin High School in 1950. He served his country in the U.S. Army for two years. After the service, he attended Wartburg College at Waverly, Iowa. On June 28, 1960, Ron was united in marriage to Gladys DeBoer at Bethel Reformed Church in rural Ellsworth, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple lived at Melvin for one year before moving to Sheldon. Two sons, Daniel and Steven, were born to this union. He served on the Sheldon City Council, Mayor of Sheldon, and on the County Board of Supervisors. Ron was honored to receive Sheldon Man of the year award (Hank Award) 1998.
Ron was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon where he taught Sunday School, worked with the youth groups, and served on the church council and various committees. He was a supporter of Ingham, Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp. In his free time, Ron enjoyed bowling, golf, and boating. His real joy in life came from spending time with his family especially at Lake Okoboji for the last 15 years.

Rons Philosophy:

I expect to pass though this world but once.

Any good, there that I can do or any

Kindness that I can show to my fellow creatures,

let me not defer nor neglect it for I

shall not pass this way again

When you give yourself to something,

It becomes part of you.

So do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10
