ROSE M. VAN VELDHUIZEN
Rose Marie Van Veldhuizen, the daughter of John and Mina (Aalberts) Verdoorn, was born September 16, 1930 on a farm half way between Maurice and Orange City, Iowa. She received her education in a small country school near Orange City. On June 23, 1949, she was united in marriage to William J. Van Veldhuizen in Orange City, Iowa. They lived for a brief time in Hospers and then in Boulder, Colorado, before settling in Sheldon. Rose was a wife, a mom and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill on July 21, 2008 in Sheldon. She remained in her home until she passed away on Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon, reaching the age of 78 years, 9 months and 24 days.
Rose was a long-time member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. She and her husband, Bill enjoyed fishing and traveling with their camper, especially to the Black Hills, Yellowstone and Itasca. She also enjoyed working with her husband on wood projects, including toys and refinishing. She liked to read and embroidery.
Rose leaves to cherish her memory her seven children, Harvey and his wife, Solange Van Veldhuizen of Potomac, MD; Charlotte and her husband, Rev. Calvin Vande Zande of Waupun, WI; Glenda and her husband, David Wurpts of Sheldon, IA; Kevin and his wife, Terri Van Veldhuizen of Camino, CA; Andy and his wife, Sheryl Van Veldhuizen of Citrus Heights, CA; Douglas Van Veldhuizen of Granite Bay, CA; David and his wife, Julia Van Veldhuizen of Lowell, MI; sixteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Joan Spronk and Dorothy Even both of Orange City, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
