SHERYL (STORM) KUIPER

Sheryl Marie Kuiper, the daughter of Leland Charles and Ada “Marie” (Farnsworth) Storm, was born January 3, 1938 in Belmond, Iowa. She moved with her parents to rural Sanborn, Iowa and attended Summit #3 Country School through the 7th grade. She graduated high school from the Archer Consolidated School in Archer, Iowa, class of 1956. After high school, she attended the National Business Training School in Sioux City, Iowa.
On August 23, 1959, she was united in marriage to Leo Morris Kuiper at St. Andrews Methodist Church in Sanborn, Iowa. The couple made their home in rural Archer, where Sheryl was a homemaker and held many jobs over the years. She worked at the USDA (ASC Office), Baum Harmon Hospital and Shea’s Hardware, all in Primghar. She taught Tole Painting classes and later painted for Mary O Jewelry. She combined her love of ice cream and fairs by owning and operating “Sheryl’s Soft Ice Cream” mobile truck. With Leo’s help, they sold soft serve ice cream at the O’Brien County Fair and other area events for sixteen years. She also worked at “Stub’s” restaurant at the Clay County Fair for several years.
Sheryl passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, reaching the age of 83 years, nine months and thirteen days. She was a member of the Archer United Methodist Church and the Archer 3-M Social Club. Sheryl loved spending time with her grandchildren. A favorite game they liked to play with her was WaHoo, where she showed no mercy, making it all the more fun. Sheryl was an avid reader, with her favorite book of all time being A Lantern in Her Hand, by Bess Streeter Aldrich. In addition to reading, she loved sewing, traveling, making and sending greeting cards, clipping recipes from the newspaper and playing solitaire on the computer. Many happy hours were spent on Pinterest and Facebook, as well. Sheryl had a great sense of humor and nothing made her laugh more than a funny story, joke or cartoon. Most importantly, she loved life, always saw the good in people and was kind to all.
Sheryl is survived by her husband, Leo Kuiper, of Archer; two daughters, Kelly Marie (John) Portz of Stillwater, Minnesota and Laura Lee Gesink of Sheldon, Iowa; six grandchildren, Megan Portz of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mark Portz of Stillwater, Minnesota, Michael Portz of Stillwater, Minnesota, Kelsie, Konner and Kyle Gesink of Sheldon, Iowa; a sister-in-law Mary and her husband Norman Swanson of Primghar, along with cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Marie, sister-in-law Merna and her husband, Carl Akeson and mother and father-in-law Grace and Henry Kuiper.
