STANLEY D. FOX

Stanley Darrell Fox, the son of William and Myrtle (Swenning) Fox, was born October 30, 1922 in Doon, Iowa. He moved to Sheldon with his family and attended Sheldon High School graduating in 1940. During World War II, he joined the United States Army. On June 26, 1949, he was united in marriage to Darlene Reilly in Sheldon, Iowa. After their marriage the couple moved to California, where Stanley was on the Long Beach Fire Department. The couple returned to Sheldon in 1951, where he worked for Arnold Motors for a short time before beginning his service at the Sheldon Post Office. He worked as a mail carrier for 30 years, before his retirement in 1984. The couple’s retirement years were spent in Sheldon and they enjoyed traveling. He passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2007, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center – Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa, reaching the age of 84 years, 4 months and 8 days.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sheldon, where he had served as an usher; he was a 60 year member of the American Legion Post #145 of Sheldon. He was a former member of the Sheldon Booster Club and served a year as president. He was honored for serving 11 years on the football chain gang. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, and also enjoyed hunting, fishing as well as traveling.
Stanley leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 57 years, Darlene of Sheldon, Iowa; their three children, Dr. Darrell and his wife, Judy Fox of Spencer, Iowa; Ann and her husband, Jim Hoch of Ainsworth, Nebraska; and Steve and his wife, Missy Fox of Spencer, Iowa; seven grandchildren, two sisters, Marcia Christofferson of Long Beach, California; Charlotte Moore of Garden Grove, California; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Dwaine and Freeman.
