Stella Marjorie Beltman was born on June 14, 1932, the second of four children born to Minard and Coba (De Vries) Krikke. She attended a country school in the Ocheyedan area two miles from their farm for her education. Stella met Elmer at a church hymn sing, dated a couple of years, before Elmer was drafted to serve his country during the Korean War. Stella was employed during that time at Priebe and Sons, a chicken processing and egg handling facility in Sibley while she waited for Elmer to return home. After his return, they were united in marriage on January 14, 1953 and to their union were blessed with six children. Stella, a devoted wife and helpmate to Elmer, raised their children on a farm between Sibley and Ocheyedan. She supported Elmer during his battle with cancer having six young children still at home. She was an encouraging mother, assisting where she was needed, helping with farm chores, making home cooked meals and tasty goodies for "coffee time" to feed her crew. Family vacations and gatherings were memorable times for her family. As the children married and moved out, a tradition of "Second Sundays" potlucks developed to enjoy family fellowship. Stella was interested and delighted in hearing what her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were doing, affectionately referring to them as their "Honeybuns" and always giving them a hug as they said goodbye. She was loved dearly by her family and husband; seldom, would you ever see them apart. She also spent more time with her sister Martha after her mom passed and relished visits with other siblings and friends throughout the years. Her hobbies included sewing, cross stitching, and traveling. Each grandchild received a set of her crossed stitched tea towels. She was an active member of Ocheyedan Christian Reformed Church. In 1992, they retired from farming and moved to Sheldon, IA and then attended First Christian Reformed Church. She volunteered in her early retirement at the Treasure Chest and Love Inc. In 2014, they moved to the Christian Retirement Home and enjoyed the community living there. Sadly, Stella was diagnosed with apraxia of speech and aphasia in 2011, but her family saw an inner strength as she handled this trial with amazing grace; her kind, gentle spirit continued, never complaining about her challenges. We were thankful she made use of the computer so she could communicate and wrote dad notes reminding him of events, interesting things to tell him and always being a gracious host to visitors. One of the best notes in the midst of the disease she shared with Elmer was that "God does not make mistakes!" As a family, we praise God for His faithfulness and her faith over the years. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband of 66 years, Elmer of Sheldon, IA; their children, Darwin (Mary) Beltman of Sibley, IA, Sherri Beltman of Lynden, WA, Donna (Bruce) Amundson of Larrabee, IA, Delores (Arlin) Kreykes of Sheldon, Diane (Bruce) Grotenhuis of Urbandale, IA, Doyle (Suzanne) Beltman of Pella, IA; 22 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild; sister, Martha Krikke and other brothers and sisters-in-law (Alice Krikke, Wilma Bootsma, Tony & Evelyn Beltman, Alice & Gary Wiersma, Gladys Beltman). She was preceded in death by their son, Duane Beltman; her parents, Minard and Coba (De Vries) Krikke; brothers, Jake (LaVera) Krikke, Clarence Krikke; two siblings who died in infancy; parents-in-law, Gerrit and Tillie Beltman.
