Verdella moved to Sheldon with a girl friend and worked at the Penguin, Hollander’s Five & Dime, and the Golden Rule. On November 21, 1948, Del was united in marriage to Howard Donald Van Meeteren in Verdi, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple made their home in Sheldon, Iowa, where she helped her husband, Howard with the business. Verdella passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa, reaching the age of 82 years, 9 months and 4 days.
Del was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon; she was active with Ladies Aid and other church activities. She was a past member of the Garden and Flower Club. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes and had taught a class at NCC on Cake Decorating. She also enjoyed braiding rugs, collecting dolls, painting and all art work, going to garage sales, playing cards, decorating her home for the holidays. She loved to dance, spend the summers in Okoboji, attending the Okoboji Summer Theater and most of all she enjoyed entertaining friends and family.
