VERLA MAE BRUGH
Verla Mae Brugh, the daughter of Elvert and Irene (Meyer) Meyer was born February 8, 1930 at Germantown, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from Paullina High School, on May 23, 1947. On June 13, 1948, she was united in marriage to Waldo “Lucky” Brugh at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. While Waldo was working for Northern Natural Gas and as a contract welder the family moved and lived in many states. The family still considered Paullina their home base. In 1974, the family established W.R.D. Pipeline Construction which was located in Paullina and operated for many years. The couple were blessed to be able to spend 28 years wintering in Mesa, Arizona. Waldo preceded her in death on March 14, 2009 in Primghar. Verla Mae remained in the family home until moving to the Sutherland Care Center in August of 2011. She passed away at the care center on Saturday, September 8, 2012 reaching the age of 82 years and 7 months.
She was baptized on March 30, 1930 at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown and later confirmed at St. Johns’ on April 18, 1943 and was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, bowling, cooking and playing cards.
Verla Mae is survived by three children; Rita and her husband, David Pauling of Lincoln, Nebraska; Bob and his wife, Sharlene Brugh of Paullina and Nancy and her husband, Mike Puhrmann of Paullina; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, Jason and his wife, Missy Pauling and their children, Kelsey, Caden and Brady; Jud and his wife, Ashley Pauling and their sons, Fletcher and Keaton; Scott and his wife, Megan Brugh; Chad Brugh and friend, Marci Davison; Aaron and his wife, Tonya Oolman and their children, Arielle, Jordan and Hudson; Amber and her husband, Brett Chambers and their sons, Creighton and Boden; and Aaric and his wife, Rachel Oolman; a sister and her husband, Carolyn and Jack Barnes of Paullina, sister-in-law, Ileen Meyer of Emporia, Kansas; also other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a granddaughter, Michelle Pauling, her parents, a sister, Lois and her husband, Phil Hohenstein and a brother, Darrell Meyer.
