Viola M. Besaw, age 79, of Primghar, Iowa passed away April 25, 2011 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Viola Marie Besaw was born July 27, 1931 in Ruthven, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Nellie (Farrand) Staver. Viola grew up in Curlew, Iowa. As a young girl she participated in sports and was on her High School Basketball Team. She attended Curlew High School where she graduated in 1949. On January 20, 1950, Viola was united in marriage to her sweetheart, Guy Wesley Besaw in Jackson, Minnesota. Together they were blessed with five children: William, Kenneth, Deborah, Brian, and Thomas.
Besides raising her children, Viola worked various jobs in a seed corn and turkey processing, the Campbell Soup Co., waitress and cook, and sold Avon products.
She was a member of the United Church of Primghar. Her main love was being a mother; she was active with the cub scouts as a den mother. Her other interests were reading, sewing and watching television. Viola moved into Sanford Sheldon Senior Care with her husband in March 2010. She enjoyed visits from her great-grandchildren, Jacob and Rachel.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 61 years, Guy of Sheldon, Iowa; her two sons William (Christina) of Gresham, Oregon, and Brian (Kay) of Estherville, Iowa; five grandchildren, William Jr. (Kim), Sarah (Lorrie), Clinton (Kristi), Adam (Barbara), Edwin; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Royal (Thora) Staver; extended family and friends.
Viola was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas and Kenneth; one daughter, Deborah; three brothers; two sisters; and her parents.
