VIRGINIA M. MERRILL 
  
     Virginia Mae Merrill, the daughter of Walter and Nina (Gustufson) Williams was born May 20, 1917 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. She received her education in Ft. Dodge, graduated from Ft. Dodge Senior High and from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Virginia taught school in Lytton, Iowa Falls and in Sheldon, Iowa. On August 24, 1947, she was united in marriage to Freeman Grant Merrill in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. After their marriage the couple made their home in Sheldon. Virginia worked as a secretary in her husband’s law office for many years. She passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at the Northwest Iowa Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa reaching the age of 88 years, 9 months and 13 days. 
     She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sheldon and of the ladies circles in church. She was an active member of the P.E.O. and was also involved with the Blood Mobile Services for many years. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of several Bridge Clubs; she also enjoyed golfing and playing tennis. 
     Virginia leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 58 years, Freeman “Bud” of Sheldon, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, Rebecca and Larry Lawson of Apple Valley, Minnesota; Jan and Dave Plunkett of Spirit Lake, Iowa; three grandchildren, Meredith and Morgan Lawson and Izaak Plunkett; a brother, Ronald Williams of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Doris Williams of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; a brother-in-law and his wife, Dale and Dorothy Merrill of Sheldon, Iowa; also several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. 
     She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Richard and Eugene “Bud” Williams; a sister and her husband, Vernice and Don Marshall; and a sister-in-law, Chevere Merrill.
