WALDO R. “LUCKY” BRUGH

Waldo Ralph “Lucky” Brugh, the son of Ralph and Maye (Triplette) Brugh was born January 7, 1926 in Republican City, Nebraska. He received his education in schools in Alma, Nebraska. At the age of 17, he joined the Merchant Marines serving during W.W. II. In 1946, he moved to Paullina, Iowa where he began employment with Northern Natural Gas Company. While in Paullina he met and was united in marriage to Verla Mae Meyer on June 13, 1948 at the Zion Lutheran Church. He continued to work for Northern Natural until 1957, when he began employment as a contract welder working in most of the 50 United States as well as in Canada, Venezuela, and Nicaragua, all the time having Paullina as his home base. In 1974, along with his son, Bob Brugh and son-in-law, David Pauling; they began W.R.D. Pipeline Construction based in Paullina. He served as a partner until his retirement. In his retirement he worked part-time as a welding inspector. The couple was blessed to be able to spend 28 years wintering in Mesa, Arizona. He passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar, reaching the age of 83 years, 2 months and 7 days.
He was baptized at the First Christian Church in Alma, Nebraska and later confirmed as an adult at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, where he currently was a member. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, cards and gardening.
Waldo is survived by his wife, Verla Mae Brugh of Paullina; three children, Rita and her husband, David Pauling of Denison, Iowa; Bob and his wife, Sharlene Brugh of Paullina and Nancy and her husband, Mike Puhrmann of Paullina; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Jason and his wife, Missy Pauling and their children, Kelsey, Caden and Brady; Jud and his wife, Ashley Pauling and their son, Fletcher; Scott Brugh and friend, Megan Cherry; Chad Brugh and friend, Marci Davison; Aaron and his wife, Tonya Oolman and their children, Arielle, Jordan and Hudson; Amber and her husband, Brett Chambers and their son, Creighton; and Aaric Oolman; also three sisters, Wilma Jones of Alma, Nebraska; Millie Louviere of Tucson, Arizona and Connie Jacobs of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; also other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Michelle Pauling; his parents and a sister, Bunny LePenske.
