WILFRED P. NIICHEL

Wilfred P. Niichel, the son of Joseph and Agatha (Faber) Niichel, was born February 21, 1933 near Granville, Iowa in Caledonia Township of O’Brien County. He received his education at St. Joseph Catholic School in Granville and graduated from Hospers High School in Hospers, Iowa in 1950. He then was called to serve in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge from the service he came back to Granville. He then moved to Waco, Texas, where he worked as a Federal Meat Inspector for over 30 years, retiring in February of 1988. In 1995, Wilfred was united in marriage to Hazelle Talcott in Waco, Texas. She preceded him in death in 2005. Wilfred moved to the Fieldcrest Assisted Living Facility in Sheldon, Iowa in March of 2006. He passed away at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, reaching the age of 77 years, 3 months and 18 days.
Wilfred was a 50 year member of Sheldon American Legion Post #145 and a member of the Order of the Forester of Granville for over 50 years. He enjoyed dancing to Polka Music and cooking.
Wilfred leaves to cherish his memory two step-daughters, Sandra of Waco, Texas and Judy of Abilene, Texas; two sisters, Margaret Jungers of Sioux City, Iowa and Florence and her husband, Al Fisher of Winner, South Dakota; a sister-in-law, Wilma Niichel of Sheldon and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents; two sisters, Doris and Wilber Hunker and Gertrude and Pete Mandis; a brother, Joseph Niichel; a brother-in-law, Jerome Jungers and a niece, Betty Jungers.
