WILLIAM J. H. GOOSEN Jr.

William John Henry Goosen Jr. the son of William John Henry and Dora Schmidt Goosen Sr. was born April 2, 1930 in Sheridan Township of Cherokee County, Iowa. He received his education in Cherokee country school. After his education he was employed as a truck driver for the Fredrickson Grain Company in Meriden, Iowa. On October 4, 1951, he was inducted into the Marine Corp where he served until his discharge on October 3, 1953. After his return he worked as a mechanic in Sheldon, Iowa. On May 1, 1955, he was united in marriage to Dolores Massmann at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. After their marriage the couple lived in Sheldon until 1958 when they moved to a farm south of Paullina. The couple farmed for many years. Dolores passed away on July 24, 1994 in Primghar, Iowa. Bill remained on the farm and continued farming. On November 24, 1995 he was united in marriage to Ruby Miller. The couple made their home in Paullina and spent many winters in Arizona. Bill passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 84 years, 3 months and 4 days.
He was baptized on April 24, 1930 and later confirmed on June 30, 1946. Bill was a long time member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. He was active in his church serving as an elder and on other groups within the church. He was also a member of the Russell West Post of the American Legion. He enjoyed family times, fishing, farming, working on his tractors and coffee time both in Paullina and Arizona.
Bill is survived by his wife, Ruby of Paullina; three sons and their wives, Mark & Diane Goosen, David and Chris Goosen and Gary and Sandy Goosen all of Paullina; nine grandchildren, Jason, Cristie, Ryan, Cloyd, Leah, Curtis, Kellie, Brice and Shandra; four great grandchildren, Katelyn, Kaley, Ashlynn and Hayden; Rubys daughter, Kristie and husband, Larry Appeldorn and family; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; one sister, Dolores and one brother, Clarence.
