Alex Michael Pottebaum was born on November 9, 1991, in Orange City, Iowa the son of Michael and Sheila (Peterson) Pottebaum. He was raised on an acreage near Granville, along with 2 sisters. Alex loved racing go-carts and then later figure 8 at Primghar, Iowa. He attended MOC-Floyd Valley High School in Orange City, graduating in 2010. He received his Diesel Technology degree from Northwest Iowa Community College in 2012.
Alex worked with his father on the acreage. Alex purchased his own acreage and began doing his own custom feeding of hogs.
He was a member of the Granville Improvement Club. Alex was a caring and compassionate member of the community and willing to help anyone in need. His creativity and hardworking nature led him to be a cherished friend by many. He was loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed boating, going to country music concerts and spending time with his close friends and girlfriend, Shelby.
Left to cherish his memory include his parents, Mike and Sheila Pottebaum of Granville; sisters, Megan Pottebaum of Des Moines, Iowa and Dana Pottebaum of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; love of his life, Shelby Martin of Remsen, Iowa; grandmother, Doris Pottebaum of Alton; grandfather, Wilmer Peterson of Lake Madison, South Dakota and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Alex was preceded in death by his grandmother, Jeanette Peterson and grandfather, Howard Pottebaum.

Alex gave the gift of hope through the Iowa Donor Network.
