Alma M Boone, born February 5, 1930, passed away peacefully following the December death of Thelmar, her husband of 70 years, her heart was broken and with complications from dementia she could not figure out how to live without her soul mate.
After graduating from Sheldon High School, Alma worked many years for the Telephone Company, first as a switchboard operator and later in the business office. Even as her memory failed in her many ways, she continued to be able to recall nearly every phone number in the Sheldon directory. In her retirement she also worked part-time as a bookkeeper for Poppema-Sikma Construction.
Alma loved and cherished her family and spent time caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be forever remembered for her Sunday Dinners and Christmas platters of baked goods distributed among family and friends. She served selflessly alongside her husband in a wide variety of service project and community organizations including First Reformed Church, Mission to Haiti, Kiwanis and more. She loved a good “word-find” or “word-scramble” or a jigsaw puzzle and was filled with joy any time she could spend time at the lake fishing, boating, or hanging on the deck with her family.
Alma is predeceased by her devoted husband Thelmar, parents Anthony and Harriet Van Ommeran, sister Betty (Van Ommeran) Vink and brother Myron Van Ommeran. She is survived by her brother, Tony (Marcia) Van Ommeran and sister, Gleora (Marvin) DeBruin. Her absence is felt deeply by her children, Terry (Tammie) Boone, Sandy (Curt) Damhof, Michael (Sherri) Boone, her grandchildren Tyler (Kari) Boone, Todd Boone, Tara (Lance) Roehlke, Marshal and Abby Jean Boone and her great grandchildren Parker, Onika, and Braxton Boone, and her many nephews and nieces. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Sanford Hospice.
